Rachel has been practicing Yoga since 1982. She trained to become a Hatha Yoga Teacher with the British Wheel of Yoga and has been self-employed and teaching in Oxford since 2006. She chose to train with the BWY as they are the governing body for Yoga in England and Wales.

Rachel was born in 1966. Her first experience of Yoga Savasana (deep relaxation) was through her Indian father when he treated her for persistent headaches. He used it as a means of pain relief (1974). The Yoga journey continued in India where she lived with her family from 1982 – 84.

Rachel wanted to understand why Yoga made her feel so good. Her inquiry led her in to enrolling on the British Wheel of Yoga (BWY) Foundation Course in 2005 taught by Lorraine Newman. This was a wonderful experience that deepened her practice, and introduced her to anatomy and physiology, pranayama, (breath extension and control) and Bandhas (internal muscular locks, core strength, channeling energy). Her personal practice deepened and developed.

Soon after she enrolled on the BWY Teaching Diploma Course in 2006 with Val Davies. This was a 3.5 year course of intense training and research, with both practical and written assignments. During the Course she was expected to attend weekly Yoga session with a BWY qualified teacher, develop her own practice and begin teaching.
She started teaching her own classes early on during the course in 2006 and became self-employed in 2009 after graduating. On completion of the Diploma she attended her first Vipassana 10-day silent retreat. This was a deeply profound experience which she would recommend to most people. Rachel held the role as Oxfordshire County Representative for the British Wheel of Yoga for 3 years (2013 – 16). This involved planning In Service Training events for Yoga Teachers and BWY members, meeting with the Committee, and writing reports for the BWY Southern Region Newsletter.

Rachel has established herself as a well-respected Yoga Teacher in Oxford with regular weekly classes. She teaches in drop-in halls, private homes 1-2-1 sessions, fitness centers, gyms, corporate businesses, regular workshops and retreats abroad and in the UK.

Rachel She attends Yoga classes, In Service Training events, Kirtans (Indian devotional chanting), Yoga festivals and workshops. Her personal practice is always developing and changing. Rachel loves challenging postures although the ultimate journey is a spiritual one. She continues to be interested in anatomy and experiential spirituality.
