This is a rustic experience. You will see wild animals and insects. No WiFi in the mountains but we will descend to do some sightseeing and there will be occasional times to connect if you need to.

Ryanair flights from London Stanstead to Perugia or Pisa. Other EU cities fly to Pisa. 

Take the train to Sansepolcro

Or 45 mins drive to the mountains. Try car hire with Auto Europe.

Other options include flying to Pisa and travelling down through Florence to Arezzo by train.

Day 1


Preparing for the retreat and imbibing the space at La Casa Musica.



Putting the final touches to the studio. Sprinkled essential oils, and positioned candles in the windows and around the floor.

The first guests arrived on Friday. After an orientation walk around the village we had our first Yoga session. This was a back to basics practice to help us just be in our bodies and to feel where we are in ourselves and in the space. Some people were new to Yoga. Others had practiced before. The weather was lovely by then and I felt everyone was at ease. Yoga was followed by the first of many delicious meals.

 More Food



A beautiful day. The second contingent of guests arrived. There were 9 people for Yoga in the morning. Rachel had prepared a delicious avocado, banana, spinach, smoothie. Another good Yoga practice incorporating some of the previous days learning. About 1.5 hours but not really clock watching.


A hearty, healthy, vegan brunch with an informal Italian lesson given by Ester and Tamara from the village.

Italian Lesson

I spent some of the day visiting the Piero della Francesca murals in Sansepolcro. One of the many delights of the exquisite town.


Back in the village we walked through the woods to the donkey sanctuary. It was quite a rugged walk, scrambling over waterfalls.

All the donkeys have names and histories and we stroke their leathery ears and bony noses.


Yoga is practiced on Elina’s perfect lawn in the sunshine. They are challenged today with some strong abdominal stuff. The sun sets behind the mountains as we cool down for relaxation, covered in blankets and feeling the soft warm breeze.


Everyone assembles at La Casa Musica for dinner. A very lovely day.

Day 3

The mountains are shrouded in clouds.


We had another delicious smoothie before Yoga in La Casa. Another healthy breakfast, pear soaked oats, nut bread.

A walk to the ridges with our lovely Italian Mountain man Alessandro Puleri and the view is stunning looking back to the village.

The mountains are covered with wild hellebores, orchids, flowering thyme and vinka.

It is some of the guest’s last Yoga session this evening. We have started to introduce the idea of an intention, goal, or heart felt wish into the Retreat. As a final practice we do have a gratitude meditation to help support our intentions. We begin in the garden but end up in the house for the final relaxation and meditation to ensure we stay warm and dry.

Elina drives us up to the Franciscan Monastery. St Francis walk around these very mountains, caring for the animals and people alike.


Day 4

The first session of the morning was very much a personal practice with much detail about our individual spinal alignments and tailored to what people felt their needs were. There was space for questions and discussion. Also so weirder and wonderful bandha practice and throwing the past behind us using Kali as a symbol for cutting through our obstacles on our path.

We had a cooked breakfast with potatoes, onions, spinach and eggs.

We took a trip to Anghiari, a medieval hamlet, built on a Roman road. It is stunning with its high walls.


Our last Yoga session this evening. It was a very gentle Yin session for those who have worked hard organising the Retreat and to prepare for a long Yoga Nidra. This is really to consolidate the Intentions that people have been contemplating over the last few days.

After yet another delicious healthy dinner.

The Retreat was a resounding success. I would like to thank Elina Roddick and Rachel Lewis for all their hard work preparing for the event. Thanks to them it ran smoothly. A special thanks to Tina Svensson for her creative vegan food. Thanks to Ray Babel for the 12th Century accommodation.  Thanks to Alessandro for his guided walks and to Astra for the Italian lesson. We hope to be returning for another retreat in September.
